    This is a part-time position.

    Job Description:

     

    Under the direction of the Director of Education, the Teacher Aide will assist classroom teachers in the instructional process, reinforcing instruction to individual or small groups of students in a classroom environment. Assist in the preparation of instructional materials and implementation of lesson plans and provide routine support. Assist students with academic and/or physical needs in order for students to access the educational environment.

     

    Schedule:
    Teacher Aides are required to work year round. At the completion of the regular academic year, Teacher Aides may be
    required to participate in the implementation of a five (5) week summer program. All Teacher Aides will be required to participate in a minimum of one (1) week of professional development after the completion of the summer program.

     

    Available schedule hours include a morning shift from 8am-1pm and a PM shift from 11:30am-4:30pm or as determined by the Director of Education. Schedule hours during the summer program will vary based on assigned responsibilities.

     

    Essential Duties:
    A. Assist the classroom teacher in arranging the learning environment, including assembling and putting materials on
    bulletin boards and/or other classroom learning displays and in keeping such displays current.
    B. Under supervision of a certified classroom teacher, prepare for classroom activities by distributing and collecting papers
    and other instructional materials for classroom instruction.
    C. Assist students with accommodations in completing classroom assignments and projects. Assure student understanding
    of classroom rules and procedures and assist students by answering questions, providing proper examples, emotional
    support, friendly attitude, and general guidance.
    D. Read to students, listen to students read and observe students reading abilities as assigned. Assist students with letter and
    word pronunciation and recognition. Assist students with math, spelling and writing exercises and assignments.
    E. Assist assigned classroom teacher with the implementation of lesson plans and the administration of various tests.
    F. Tutor individual or small groups of students, reinforcing instruction as directed by the teacher.
    G. Confer with the classroom teacher concerning lesson plans and materials to meet student needs and assist with the
    implementation of lesson plans.
    H. Perform a variety of clerical duties in support of classroom activities, such as preparing, typing, copying and filing
    instructional materials. Grading of student tests and assignments, recording of grades and attendance, lunch reports and
    maintaining student records and files as assigned.
    I. Assist the certificated teacher with the supervision of students during non-instructional times, such as emergency drills,
    assemblies, cafeteria, restrooms, field trips, hallways, playground and bus loading / unloading activities.
    J. Assist with lunchroom supervision and other clean-up duties, as assigned.
    K. Observe and control behavior of students in the classroom according to approved procedures.
    L. Cooperate with other professional staff members in assessing students’ needs, such as evaluate students’ academic and
    social growth, keep appropriate records, and prepare progress reports.
    M. Oversee the After School Enrichment Club, PM shift only.
    N. Provide support to the other instructional staff during After School Exploratory Clubs, PM shift only.
    O. Model appropriate citizenship and leadership skills.

     

    Other Related Functions of this Position:

    P. Participate in staff development training programs to improve job performance.
    Q. Participate in faculty meetings and special events as assigned.
    R. Perform other related duties as assigned for the purpose of ensuring the efficient and effective functioning of the
    student’s academic success.
    S. Respond to emergency situations (e.g. student injuries, fights, etc.) for the purpose of resolving immediate safety
    concerns and/or directing to appropriate personnel for resolution.
    T. Function as an appropriate role model for children, providing proper examples, emotional support, and a friendly
    attitude and general guidance.
    U. Demonstrate regular attendance and punctuality.
    V. Maintain a neat and orderly classroom/office.
    W. Adhere to the appropriate code of ethics and student confidentiality.
    X. Model nondiscriminatory practices in all activities.
    Professional Responsibilities:
    Y. Demonstrate the ability to react well under pressure, handle and balance multiple demands at one time, work with
    frequent interruptions and perform duties and tasks at expected levels of professionalism.
    Z. Demonstrate extensive knowledge of, and ability to, perform duties in full compliance with all district, Board of Education, State and Federal laws, methods, requirements, policies, procedures and activities pertinent to the duties of this position.

    Physical Requirements:
    The physical demands may involve standing and circulating for extended periods of time, climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, talking and listening, reaching, and handling various objects.

    Experience/Certifications:
    • REQUIRED: A minimum of an associates degree from an accredited institution of higher education
    • REQUIRED: Pass state and federal background checks
    • Recommended: CPR/First Aid certified (will also provide training upon hiring)
    • Recommended: Demonstrated knowledge of and the ability to assist in the instruction of, reading, writing, and math by passing a formal and state approved assessment such as the ParaPro Assessment (passing score 459)
